Choosing a sectional garage door colour and finish
Match the garage door to your windows and front door first. Anthracite grey (RAL 7016) and white are the most common UK choices; woodgrain effects suit brick and stone homes; dark colours look sharp on modern houses but can be limited by size and sun exposure.

Start with what is already there
Your windows, front door and fascias set the palette. Get the RAL or foil reference from your window installer, or bring a sample to the survey. Screens and printed brochures are not reliable colour guides.
Pattern and texture
- Fine ribs: busy and forgiving; suit most houses.
- Large ribs: calmer lines; suit modern homes and wide doors.
- Flush: a clean plane; shows marks more in dark colours.
- Cassette: traditional panelled look for period homes.
- Textures: stucco and woodgrain textures hide fingerprints and small marks better than smooth finishes.
Preferred colours or RAL to order?
Preferred colours are made in volume, so they cost less and arrive sooner. RAL colours to order widen the choice but typically add £100 to £300 on a single door and can extend lead times.
Dark colours in strong sun
Dark colours absorb more heat. Some manufacturers restrict dark colours on certain door sizes or recommend particular panel types for sunny elevations. We check the rules for your door and orientation.
Woodgrain without the upkeep
Woodgrain foils give a timber look on a steel door with no painting or staining. Golden oak suits brick and cottage-style homes; darker woods suit stone and render.
