Ribbed sectional garage doors
A ribbed sectional garage door has panels pressed with horizontal ribs, either several fine ribs per panel (often called medium or M-rib) or one bold rib per panel (large or L-rib). The ribs give the door its classic linear look and help disguise the joints between sections.
- Fine rib (M-rib): Several ribs per section.
- Large rib (L-rib): One wide rib per section.
- Textures: Stucco, woodgrain or smooth.

Fine ribs or large ribs?
Fine ribs give a busy, textured look that suits most homes and hides small marks well. Large ribs give a calmer, more architectural look with fewer lines, and suit modern houses and wide doors.
Which surface texture?
Ribbed panels are usually offered with a stucco-embossed texture, a woodgrain texture, or a smooth finish. Textured finishes hide fingerprints and light scratches better; smooth finishes look sharper but show marks more.
Do ribs affect strength?
The pressed ribs stiffen the steel skin slightly, which helps wide doors stay flat. Insulated cores do most of the stiffening on double-skin panels.
What colours are available?
Ribbed doors come in standard colours such as white and anthracite grey on most ranges, with many RAL colours to order.
Is a ribbed door the cheapest option?
Ribbed designs in white are often the entry point to a range, which makes them good value, but premium ranges offer ribbed panels too.
