Cable, roller and track repairs
Cable, roller and track repairs fix the parts that guide and lift a sectional garage door: the steel lift cables on each side, the bottom brackets they fix to, the rollers that run in the tracks, and the tracks themselves. Faults here cause a door to run crooked, jam, grind or drop on one side.
- Lift cables: Replace and re-tension both sides.
- Rollers: Replace worn or broken rollers.
- Bottom brackets: Replace damaged brackets.

What does a snapped or slack cable look like?
The door hangs lower on one side, may jam part-way, or the cable is visibly loose or off its drum above the door. Stop using the door: a cable fault can let the door twist or fall.
Why do rollers wear?
Nylon and steel rollers wear with use and dirt. Worn rollers make the door noisy and rough, and broken rollers can let a section leave the track.
What knocks tracks out of line?
A car nudging the door, settling of the building, or loose fixings can bend or shift a track. Misaligned tracks make the door bind and strain the operator.
Can these parts be replaced without a new door?
Yes. Cables, rollers, bottom brackets, hinges and tracks are all replaceable parts.
How do you stop it happening again?
Regular servicing catches fraying cables and worn rollers before they fail. Keeping tracks clean and not lubricating them with heavy grease helps too.

Questions people ask
How much does it cost to replace garage door cables?
As a guide, a cable replacement visit is around £120–£280, depending on the door and what else needs attention.
My door is crooked. Can I still open it?
No. A crooked door usually means a cable or roller fault. Keep clear and book a visit.
Should I oil the tracks?
No. Clean them and keep them dry. Light lubricant goes on hinges, roller bearings and springs, not the inside of the tracks.
