Sectional garage door FAQs

Buying a door

What is a sectional garage door?

A garage door made of horizontal panels hinged together that run up vertical tracks and park under the ceiling. It lifts straight up, so it needs no space on the drive.

Are sectional garage doors worth the money?

For most homes, yes. They seal and insulate far better than up-and-over doors, keep the drive clear and are easy to motorise. They cost more to buy.

How long does a sectional garage door last?

The panels are made for many years outdoors. Springs, cables, rollers and the operator are wear parts that are replaced over the door's life; annual servicing helps them last.

Can I have a sectional door without a motor?

Yes. A balanced sectional door can be opened by hand with a handle and lock, and a motor can often be added later.

What is the lead time?

Doors are made to measure. Many manufacturers quote several weeks, and larger national retailers quote six to twelve weeks from order. Your quote shows the expected lead time.

Surveys, prices and payment

Is the survey free?

Yes, for new doors and upgrades. Repair and service visits are chargeable, and we agree the visit price before we come.

Are your prices fixed?

Guide prices are ranges. After the survey you receive a fixed written price for the exact door.

Do your prices include VAT?

Domestic guide prices include VAT at 20%. Commercial prices are shown plus VAT.

Do you take the old door away?

Yes, removal and disposal of a standard old door is included in our new-door guide prices.

Can I cancel after ordering?

You have cancellation rights for contracts agreed at home, online or by phone. Doors made to your measurements can be exempt once manufacture starts, so we explain this before the order is placed.

Fitting

How long does fitting take?

Most domestic doors are fitted in one day.

Do I need to be at home?

Please be there at the start and for the handover at the end.

Will you need power?

An electric door needs a switched fused spur or socket near the operator. If there is none, we include the electrical work on your quote.

Can you fit a sectional door to any garage?

Most garages can take one. The survey checks headroom, side room, depth and the condition of the opening, and we will tell you if another door type suits better.

Repairs and aftercare

Do you repair doors you did not fit?

Yes, we repair and service most common sectional doors.

Do you offer 24/7 call-outs?

No. We aim to see urgent cases quickly but we do not advertise a 24/7 service.

How often should a door be serviced?

Once a year for a powered door used daily; at least every two years otherwise.

Can I fix a broken spring myself?

No. Springs store a lot of energy and can cause serious injury. Leave spring and cable work to an engineer.

Coverage

Where do you work?

We supply and fit across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Islands and remote areas are covered by arrangement, with any travel cost shown on the quote.

Do you have a local branch near me?

We do not operate local showrooms. Our surveyors and installers travel to you, and dates depend on availability in your area.
