What should Rickmansworth homeowners know about side sectional doors?
How much side room is needed?
The door parks along one side wall, so that wall needs to be clear for roughly the width of the door, plus a small amount of side room on the other jamb. Shelving, windows or a side door on the parking wall can rule it out, which is why we look at the whole garage at survey.
Is it electric?
Side sectional doors can be motorised with a dedicated operator that runs along the head track. Manual versions are also available.
What can you choose for your Rickmansworth garage?
- FinishesMost ribbed, flush and woodgrain finishes, with vertical panel joints.
- Electric or manualDedicated side-sliding operator or manual handle and lock.
- Partial openingWalk-through position on motorised versions.
Guide price for a side sectional door in Rickmansworth
Guide price: from £3,495 inc VAT. The figure includes VAT, fitting and taking away a standard old door. Your survey turns it into a fixed price.
At the free survey we measure everything the manufacturer needs, check the brickwork, lintel and floor, and agree the door details with you.
Do you need permission in Rickmansworth?
The planning authority for Rickmansworth is the local district or borough council. A replacement garage door is usually outside planning control, but it is worth a quick check where conditions apply.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.

Questions from Rickmansworth customers

Yes, the panels are insulated in the same way as overhead sectional doors.
Can it open part-way?
Yes. Many installations use a pedestrian opening position so you can walk in without opening the whole door.
Do you cover Rickmansworth?
Yes. We cover Rickmansworth, including postcode districts WD3, WD18. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will the local district or borough council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask the local district or borough council before ordering.
