What should South Elmsall homeowners know about electric sectional doors?
Can my existing manual sectional be motorised?
Often, yes, if the door is in good order and properly balanced. Converting a manual door to powered operation changes the safety position, so the door must be checked and set up to the powered-door standards, not just fitted with a motor.
What happens in a power cut?
Every electric sectional door has an emergency release, a cord inside that disconnects the carriage so the door can be lifted by hand. If the garage has no other way in, an external emergency release lock can be added.
What can you choose for your South Elmsall garage?
- External releaseLockable external emergency release for garages with no other access.
- Battery backupKeeps the door running for a few cycles in a power cut on supported operators.
- Belt or chain driveBelt drives are quieter; chain drives are hard-wearing.
- Handsets and wall buttonUsually two handsets plus an internal push button; extra handsets available.
How much does an electric sectional door cost in South Elmsall?
Guide price: £2,095–£3,495 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
The survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure width, height, headroom, side room and depth, and look at power for an operator.
Planning and regulations for South Elmsall homes
If your property in South Elmsall is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, Wakefield Council is the authority to check with before ordering.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.
Operators normally run from a switched fused spur; adding one to an existing circuit is not notifiable in England, but a new circuit falls under Part P.

Questions from South Elmsall customers
Can you fit an electric door if I do not have a socket in the garage?
Yes. We note it at survey and include the electrical work needed on your quote, or you can have your own electrician fit a switched fused spur or socket before fitting day.
Can I add more remotes later?
Yes. Extra handsets can be coded to most operators, and we can do this on a service visit.
Which parts of South Elmsall do you cover?
We cover South Elmsall across postcode districts WF9, along with nearby Pontefract, Castleford and Wakefield. Dates are agreed when you book.
Will Wakefield Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask Wakefield Council before ordering.
