Key questions about electric sectional doors in Pontefract
What happens in a power cut?
Every electric sectional door has an emergency release, a cord inside that disconnects the carriage so the door can be lifted by hand. If the garage has no other way in, an external emergency release lock can be added.
Do I need an electrician?
Most operators run from a switched fused spur or socket near the motor position. If you already have one, the fitting is straightforward. If a new circuit is needed, that is notifiable electrical work in some UK nations and we tell you on the quote how it will be handled.

How much does an electric sectional door cost in Pontefract?
Guide price: £2,095–£3,495 inc VAT. Prices include VAT and fitting. Building work to the opening or a new electrical circuit would be quoted separately.
At the free survey we measure everything the manufacturer needs, check the brickwork, lintel and floor, and agree the door details with you.
Planning and regulations for Pontefract homes
If your property in Pontefract is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, Wakefield Council is the authority to check with before ordering.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.
If the garage already has a socket near the operator position, no electrical notification is needed. A brand-new circuit is notifiable under Part P in England.

Questions from Pontefract customers
Can you fit an electric door if I do not have a socket in the garage?
Yes. We note it at survey and include the electrical work needed on your quote, or you can have your own electrician fit a switched fused spur or socket before fitting day.
Will the door open in a power cut?
Yes, by hand. Pull the emergency release cord and the door can be lifted manually. Some operators also accept a backup battery.
Which parts of Pontefract do you cover?
We cover Pontefract across postcode districts WF7, WF8, WF10, WF11, along with nearby Castleford, South Elmsall and Wakefield. Dates are agreed when you book.
Will Wakefield Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask Wakefield Council before ordering.
Do you also cover towns near Pontefract?
Yes. Close to Pontefract we also cover Castleford (3 mi), South Elmsall (7 mi), Wakefield (8 mi) and Ossett (11 mi).
