Choosing an electric sectional door for a home in Sutton Coldfield
What happens in a power cut?
Every electric sectional door has an emergency release, a cord inside that disconnects the carriage so the door can be lifted by hand. If the garage has no other way in, an external emergency release lock can be added.
Do I need an electrician?
Most operators run from a switched fused spur or socket near the motor position. If you already have one, the fitting is straightforward. If a new circuit is needed, that is notifiable electrical work in some UK nations and we tell you on the quote how it will be handled.
Which options are available in Sutton Coldfield?
- Smart controlApp control through a module or built-in Wi-Fi on selected operators.
- Battery backupKeeps the door running for a few cycles in a power cut on supported operators.
- PhotocellsInfra-red safety beams across the opening.
- External releaseLockable external emergency release for garages with no other access.
How much does an electric sectional door cost in Sutton Coldfield?
Guide price: £2,095–£3,495 inc VAT. The figure includes VAT, fitting and taking away a standard old door. Your survey turns it into a fixed price.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
What rules apply in Sutton Coldfield?
If your property in Sutton Coldfield is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, Birmingham City Council is the authority to check with before ordering.
A new garage door in an existing opening is not normally development needing planning permission in England. The exceptions are listed buildings, conservation areas, Article 4 areas and estates where a planning condition restricts changes to the garage.
If the garage already has a socket near the operator position, no electrical notification is needed. A brand-new circuit is notifiable under Part P in England.

Questions from Sutton Coldfield customers
Can I add more remotes later?
Yes. Extra handsets can be coded to most operators, and we can do this on a service visit.
Can you fit an electric door if I do not have a socket in the garage?
Yes. We note it at survey and include the electrical work needed on your quote, or you can have your own electrician fit a switched fused spur or socket before fitting day.
Do you cover Sutton Coldfield?
Yes. We cover Sutton Coldfield, including postcode districts B72, B73, B74, B75, B76. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will Birmingham City Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask Birmingham City Council before ordering.
