What should Gorseinon homeowners know about electric sectional doors?
How does the operator work?
A motor unit is fixed to the garage ceiling and connected to the top section of the door by a carriage running on a rail. When you press the handset, the carriage pulls the door up the tracks while the springs on the door do most of the lifting. The motor only has to guide a door that is already balanced.
What safety features should it have?
A power-operated door needs force limitation so it stops and reverses if it meets resistance, and photocells across the opening are a sensible addition so the door will not close on a car, child or pet. Doors put into service in the UK should meet the product standard BS EN 13241, with the powered-door safety requirements of BS EN 12453, including force limits measured with a calibrated meter, applied when the door is set up.
Which options are available in Gorseinon?
- PhotocellsInfra-red safety beams across the opening.
- Smart controlApp control through a module or built-in Wi-Fi on selected operators.
- Belt or chain driveBelt drives are quieter; chain drives are hard-wearing.
- Battery backupKeeps the door running for a few cycles in a power cut on supported operators.

In Wales a like-for-like garage door is normally minor work outside planning control. Listed buildings, conservation areas and planning conditions are the exceptions to check.
In Wales a new circuit, or a new supply to a detached garage, is notifiable electrical work and is done by a registered electrician.

Questions from Gorseinon customers
Can I add more remotes later?
Yes. Extra handsets can be coded to most operators, and we can do this on a service visit.
Can you fit an electric door if I do not have a socket in the garage?
Yes. We note it at survey and include the electrical work needed on your quote, or you can have your own electrician fit a switched fused spur or socket before fitting day.
Do you cover Gorseinon?
Yes. We cover Gorseinon, including postcode districts SA4. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will Swansea Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. A replacement garage door of similar appearance is normally minor work in Wales, but listed buildings, conservation areas and planning conditions can change that. If in doubt, ask Swansea Council before ordering.
