What should Derry homeowners know about double sectional doors?
How long does fitting take?
A double sectional door is still usually a one-day job for a two-person team, including removal of the old door, unless the opening needs building work first.
One wide door or two single doors?
If your garage has a central pier, two single doors may still make sense. If the opening is clear from side to side, one wide sectional door gives the most usable width and a cleaner look. On some properties removing a central pier is possible, but that is structural work needing proper design, not a decision to make on the doorstep.

What will a double sectional door cost in Derry?
Guide price: £3,295–£4,995 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
Do you need permission in Derry?
If your property in Derry is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, Derry City and Strabane District Council is the authority to check with before ordering.
Northern Ireland planning rules usually allow a replacement garage door in the same opening. Check with the council planning office first if the property is listed or in a conservation area.
Under the Windsor Framework, products placed on the market in Northern Ireland follow EU rules, so doors carry CE marking (with UKNI where a UK body assessed them). UKCA marking on its own is not accepted in Northern Ireland.

Questions from Derry customers
Is a double sectional door heavy to open by hand?
When it is correctly balanced, the springs carry most of the weight. Even so, most people choose electric operation on a double.
Can you replace two single doors with one double sectional?
Only if the central pier can be removed safely. That needs structural assessment and often a new lintel, which is arranged separately before the door is ordered.
Which parts of Derry do you cover?
We cover Derry across postcode districts BT48, along with nearby Strabane and Limavady. Dates are agreed when you book.
Will Derry City and Strabane District Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not when the door goes into the existing opening. In Northern Ireland, check first if the property is listed or in a conservation area. If in doubt, ask Derry City and Strabane District Council before ordering.
Do you also cover towns near Derry?
