Up-and-over to sectional door replacement in Clwyd
Our replacement sectional door service covers Clwyd: Wrexham, Buckley, Colwyn Bay and Flint, plus the surrounding area, with each door made to measure after a free survey.
Up-and-over to sectional replacement means taking out an old canopy or retractable up-and-over garage door and fitting a sectional door in its place, usually behind the opening. It is the most common garage door upgrade in the UK because it gives a warmer, quieter door that lifts straight up and frees the drive.

What should you know about replacement sectional doors in Clwyd?
Will the opening need work?
Most openings take a sectional door with little preparation. Sometimes old timber subframes, damaged brick returns or an uneven floor need attention first. The survey picks this up so the price does not change on the day.
Does the sectional door go behind or in the opening?
Fitting behind the opening usually gives the best clear width and seals well against the inside face of the wall. In some garages fitting within the opening is necessary; the survey decides.
Can I keep the car in the garage that day?
No. The garage needs to be clear just inside the opening while we work. Everything else can stay.
Which options can you choose?
- Fit behind the openingFor maximum clear width.
- Electric upgradeOperator and remotes.
- TrimsTo tidy reveals and the head.
- Removal and disposalOld door, frame and springs.
How much does a replacement sectional door cost in Clwyd?
Guide price: £2,095–£2,795 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
What rules apply in Clwyd?
In Wales, replacing a garage door with one of similar appearance is normally treated as minor work that does not need planning permission. Listed buildings, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and any planning conditions on your property can change that, so check with your local planning authority first if any of these apply.
Planning authorities in Clwyd include Conwy Council, Denbighshire Council, Flintshire Council and Wrexham Council.

Questions about up-and-over to sectional door replacement in Clwyd
Is an up-and-over door dangerous when its springs go?
A failing up-and-over door can drop suddenly. If yours is slamming shut or feels heavy, stop using it and get it checked.
Can the new door be wider than the old one?
Fitting behind the opening often gives more clear width than the old frame did, but the brick opening itself sets the limit.
How much does it cost to replace an up-and-over door with a sectional?
A typical single replacement, with the old door removed and a new insulated electric sectional fitted, is around £2,095–£2,795.
Which towns in Clwyd do you cover?
We cover Wrexham, Buckley, Colwyn Bay, Flint, Rhyl and Prestatyn and other towns across Clwyd.
Do I need planning permission in Clwyd?
Usually not. A replacement garage door of similar appearance is normally minor work in Wales, but listed buildings, conservation areas and planning conditions can change that. Check with your local planning authority if in doubt.
