What should Romford homeowners know about side sectional doors?
How much side room is needed?
The door parks along one side wall, so that wall needs to be clear for roughly the width of the door, plus a small amount of side room on the other jamb. Shelving, windows or a side door on the parking wall can rule it out, which is why we look at the whole garage at survey.
When does a side sectional beat an overhead door?
If you have a low ceiling, a beam just above the opening, ceiling storage or a loft hatch you want to keep using, a side-sliding door avoids the ceiling altogether. It needs clear wall space on one side instead.

Planning and regulations for Romford homes
The planning authority for Romford is the local London borough council. A replacement garage door is usually outside planning control, but it is worth a quick check where conditions apply.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.

Questions from Romford customers
Can it open part-way?
Yes. Many installations use a pedestrian opening position so you can walk in without opening the whole door.
Will a side sectional fit if I have a side door?
It depends where the side door is. The parking wall needs to be clear, so a side door on that wall can stop it fitting.
Do you cover Romford?
Yes. We cover Romford, including postcode districts RM1, RM2, RM3, RM5, RM7, RM11, RM12, RM13. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Do I need planning permission for a new garage door in Romford?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, check with the local London borough council.
Do you also cover towns near Romford?
Yes. Close to Romford we also cover Dagenham (2 mi), Ilford (5 mi), Barking (5 mi) and Chingford (9 mi).
