Choosing a sectional door with a pass door for a home in Ely
Does it affect the operator?
Yes. The operator is linked to a safety switch so the main door cannot move while the pass door is open.
Can every door have one?
Pass doors are only offered on certain ranges, widths and designs, and the door must be wide enough to accommodate the pass door with sections either side.
What can you choose for your Ely garage?
- Safety interlockStops the door running when the pass door is open.
- Lock and handleMatched to the door.
- Low thresholdOn selected ranges.
- Hinge sideLeft or right hand.
How much does a sectional door with a pass door cost in Ely?
Guide price: from £3,995 inc VAT. Prices include VAT and fitting. Building work to the opening or a new electrical circuit would be quoted separately.
The survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure width, height, headroom, side room and depth, and look at power for an operator.
Planning and regulations for Ely homes
The planning authority for Ely is the local district or borough council. A replacement garage door is usually outside planning control, but it is worth a quick check where conditions apply.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.

Questions from Ely customers
Is there a step to get through a pass door?
Yes, there is a threshold. Low-threshold versions reduce it on some ranges.
Can a pass door be added to my existing sectional door?
Not usually. The pass door is built into the door at the factory, so it is ordered with a new door.
Do you cover Ely?
Yes. We cover Ely, including postcode districts CB6. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will the local district or borough council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask the local district or borough council before ordering.
Do you also cover towns near Ely?
Yes. Close to Ely we also cover Newmarket (12 mi), March (13 mi) and Cambridge (15 mi).
