Sectional garage door servicing and safety checks in Pontefract

Sectional garage door servicing and safety checks in Pontefract: what to expect

How often should a door be serviced?

For a powered door used every day, once a year is sensible. A lightly used manual door can go longer, though we would not leave it more than two years. Commercial doors that open many times a day need more frequent visits.

Why test the force settings?

A powered door that closes too hard can hurt someone. Testing the force limits and reversal is one of the most important parts of a service.

Safety points for Pontefract customers

If a spring has broken, a cable has come off or the door hangs crooked, stop using it, keep people and pets clear and do not try to force it open or closed. Leave the operator unplugged until the engineer has checked it.

A garage door fitted with an operator counts as a machine under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, whether it is at home or at work. Whoever puts the complete powered door into service must check it against BS EN 12453, including measuring closing forces with a calibrated meter, and issue a Declaration of Conformity and apply UKCA or CE marking (CE marking in Northern Ireland). That includes motorising an existing manual door, which is why a conversion is always set up and tested as a new powered door.
