Key questions about new sectional garage doors in Horsforth
What is checked at survey?
We measure the opening width and height, headroom above the opening, side room either side, the depth of the garage, and the condition of the brickwork, lintel and floor. We also look at power for an operator and anything that could get in the way of the tracks.
Why does balancing matter?
A balanced door should stay roughly where you leave it part-open. If the springs are set too light or too heavy, the door wears faster and the operator works harder. Balancing is a key step we never skip.

What will a new sectional garage door cost in Horsforth?
Guide price: £2,095–£2,795 inc VAT. The figure includes VAT, fitting and taking away a standard old door. Your survey turns it into a fixed price.
At the free survey we measure everything the manufacturer needs, check the brickwork, lintel and floor, and agree the door details with you.
Do you need permission in Horsforth?
The planning authority for Horsforth is Leeds City Council. A replacement garage door is usually outside planning control, but it is worth a quick check where conditions apply.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.
If the garage already has a socket near the operator position, no electrical notification is needed. A brand-new circuit is notifiable under Part P in England.

Questions from Horsforth customers
How long does it take to install a sectional garage door?
Most domestic doors are fitted in one day once the door has been made. The quote gives the expected lead time for manufacture.
Do I need to be home?
Someone needs to be there at the start and for the handover at the end, so we can agree the details and show you how everything works.
Do you cover Horsforth?
Yes. We cover Horsforth, including postcode districts LS5, LS13, LS16, LS18, LS19. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will Leeds City Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask Leeds City Council before ordering.
