Key questions about new sectional garage doors in Staines
Why does balancing matter?
A balanced door should stay roughly where you leave it part-open. If the springs are set too light or too heavy, the door wears faster and the operator works harder. Balancing is a key step we never skip.
What is checked at survey?
We measure the opening width and height, headroom above the opening, side room either side, the depth of the garage, and the condition of the brickwork, lintel and floor. We also look at power for an operator and anything that could get in the way of the tracks.
Which options are available in Staines?
- Making goodTrims and finishing round the opening.
- Old door removalRemoval and disposal included where quoted.
- Free surveyFor new doors and upgrades.
- HandoverDemonstration and safety checks.
What will a new sectional garage door cost in Staines?
Guide price: £2,095–£2,795 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
What rules apply in Staines?
If your property in Staines is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, the local district or borough council is the authority to check with before ordering.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.
Operators normally run from a switched fused spur; adding one to an existing circuit is not notifiable in England, but a new circuit falls under Part P.

Questions from Staines customers
Do I need to be home?
Someone needs to be there at the start and for the handover at the end, so we can agree the details and show you how everything works.
Do I need to clear the garage?
Please clear the area just inside the opening and along both side walls and the ceiling for the length of the tracks.
Which parts of Staines do you cover?
We cover Staines across postcode districts TW15, TW16, TW17, TW18, TW19, TW20, along with nearby Egham, Ashford (Surrey) and Sunbury-on-Thames. Dates are agreed when you book.
Do I need planning permission for a new garage door in Staines?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, check with the local district or borough council.
