What should Romford homeowners know about new sectional garage doors?
What is checked at survey?
We measure the opening width and height, headroom above the opening, side room either side, the depth of the garage, and the condition of the brickwork, lintel and floor. We also look at power for an operator and anything that could get in the way of the tracks.
Why does balancing matter?
A balanced door should stay roughly where you leave it part-open. If the springs are set too light or too heavy, the door wears faster and the operator works harder. Balancing is a key step we never skip.

Guide price for a new sectional garage door in Romford
Guide price: £2,095–£2,795 inc VAT. The figure includes VAT, fitting and taking away a standard old door. Your survey turns it into a fixed price.
The survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure width, height, headroom, side room and depth, and look at power for an operator.
What rules apply in Romford?
Romford falls under the local London borough council for planning and building control, which is the place to check if your home is listed or in a conservation area.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.
Operators normally run from a switched fused spur; adding one to an existing circuit is not notifiable in England, but a new circuit falls under Part P.

Questions from Romford customers
Do I need to be home?
Someone needs to be there at the start and for the handover at the end, so we can agree the details and show you how everything works.
How long does it take to install a sectional garage door?
Most domestic doors are fitted in one day once the door has been made. The quote gives the expected lead time for manufacture.
Do you cover Romford?
Yes. We cover Romford, including postcode districts RM1, RM2, RM3, RM5, RM7, RM11, RM12, RM13. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will the local London borough council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask the local London borough council before ordering.
