Large and oversized sectional garage doors: what matters for Hatfield garages
How are lead times affected?
Non-standard sizes are made to order, so lead times can run longer than for common domestic sizes. The quote shows the expected lead time.
Is a domestic operator enough?
Not always. Larger, heavier doors need an operator rated for the size, and very large doors may use a shaft-mounted operator instead of a ceiling rail.
Options and upgrades for Hatfield homes
- Shaft or rail operatorSpecified to the door size.
- Heavier springsSpring sets sized to the larger door weight.
- High-lift tracksUse roof height so the door parks higher.
- Vision rowsWindows across one section.
How much does a large sectional door cost in Hatfield?
Guide price: from £4,495 inc VAT. Prices include VAT and fitting. Building work to the opening or a new electrical circuit would be quoted separately.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
Do you need permission in Hatfield?
If your property in Hatfield is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, the local district or borough council is the authority to check with before ordering.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.

Questions from Hatfield customers
How much is a large or oversized sectional door?
Large doors are priced on survey because size and structure vary so much. As a guide they start from £4,495 supplied and fitted.
Will a large door need a special motor?
It needs an operator rated for its size and weight, which may be a heavier rail operator or a shaft-mounted unit.
Do you cover Hatfield?
Yes. We cover Hatfield, including postcode districts AL7, AL8, AL9, AL10. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will the local district or borough council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask the local district or borough council before ordering.
Do you also cover towns near Hatfield?
Yes. Close to Hatfield we also cover Welwyn Garden City (3 mi), St Albans (5 mi), Potters Bar (5 mi) and Hertford (7 mi).
