Large and oversized sectional garage doors in Gwent
Our large sectional door service covers Gwent: Newport (Gwent), Cwmbran, Pontypool and Ebbw Vale, plus the surrounding area, with each door made to measure after a free survey.
Large and oversized sectional garage doors are made-to-measure doors for openings taller or wider than a standard domestic garage, such as motorhome and caravan garages, oak-framed barns, coach houses and triple-width openings. They use heavier panels, springs and track sets, but work in the same way: the door rises vertically and parks under the roof.

What should you know about large sectional doors in Gwent?
Can large doors be insulated and glazed?
Yes. Most large doors use insulated panels, and window rows or vision panels can be added to bring light into a long garage.
Is a domestic operator enough?
Not always. Larger, heavier doors need an operator rated for the size, and very large doors may use a shaft-mounted operator instead of a ceiling rail.
Do tall doors need more headroom?
A tall door needs a correspondingly long horizontal track and a suitable ceiling or roof structure to fix it to. Barns and garages with pitched roofs often have room for a high-lift or vertical-lift track that keeps the door higher up the roof slope.
Which options can you choose?
- High-lift tracksUse roof height so the door parks higher.
- Heavier springsSpring sets sized to the larger door weight.
- Vision rowsWindows across one section.
- Shaft or rail operatorSpecified to the door size.
How much does a large sectional door cost in Gwent?
Guide price: from £4,495 inc VAT. Prices include VAT and fitting. Building work to the opening or a new electrical circuit would be quoted separately.
The survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure width, height, headroom, side room and depth, and look at power for an operator.
What rules apply in Gwent?
In Wales, replacing a garage door with one of similar appearance is normally treated as minor work that does not need planning permission. Listed buildings, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and any planning conditions on your property can change that, so check with your local planning authority first if any of these apply.
Planning authorities in Gwent include Blaenau Gwent Council, Caerphilly Council, Newport City Council and Torfaen Council.

Questions about large and oversized sectional garage doors in Gwent
Will a large door need a special motor?
It needs an operator rated for its size and weight, which may be a heavier rail operator or a shaft-mounted unit.
Can you fit a sectional door to a motorhome garage?
Yes, provided the building has the height and structure for the tracks and the door. We measure headroom, side room and depth at survey.
Can a sectional door go in an oak barn?
Usually. The fixing method is matched to the frame, and allowance is made for timber movement.
Which towns in Gwent do you cover?
We cover Newport (Gwent), Cwmbran, Pontypool, Ebbw Vale, Caerphilly and Risca and other towns across Gwent.
Do I need planning permission in Gwent?
Usually not. A replacement garage door of similar appearance is normally minor work in Wales, but listed buildings, conservation areas and planning conditions can change that. Check with your local planning authority if in doubt.
