What should Putney homeowners know about large sectional doors?
Do tall doors need more headroom?
A tall door needs a correspondingly long horizontal track and a suitable ceiling or roof structure to fix it to. Barns and garages with pitched roofs often have room for a high-lift or vertical-lift track that keeps the door higher up the roof slope.
How are lead times affected?
Non-standard sizes are made to order, so lead times can run longer than for common domestic sizes. The quote shows the expected lead time.
What can you choose for your Putney garage?
- Heavier springsSpring sets sized to the larger door weight.
- Vision rowsWindows across one section.
- High-lift tracksUse roof height so the door parks higher.

At the free survey we measure everything the manufacturer needs, check the brickwork, lintel and floor, and agree the door details with you.
Planning and regulations for Putney homes
The planning authority for Putney is the local London borough council. A replacement garage door is usually outside planning control, but it is worth a quick check where conditions apply.
A new garage door in an existing opening is not normally development needing planning permission in England. The exceptions are listed buildings, conservation areas, Article 4 areas and estates where a planning condition restricts changes to the garage.
