Large and oversized sectional garage doors: what matters for Marlow garages
When is a door oversized?
Anything taller than about 2.3 metres or wider than a typical double, roughly 5 metres, usually moves into larger spring and track specifications. Motorhome garages often need heights of 3 metres or more.
What about oak-framed and timber buildings?
Doors can be fixed to timber frames, but the fixings and any packers have to suit the frame, and green oak moves as it dries. The survey checks the frame and the fixing positions.
What can you choose for your Marlow garage?
- Shaft or rail operatorSpecified to the door size.
- Vision rowsWindows across one section.
- Heavier springsSpring sets sized to the larger door weight.
- High-lift tracksUse roof height so the door parks higher.
How much does a large sectional door cost in Marlow?
Guide price: from £4,495 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
Planning and regulations for Marlow homes
Planning questions for homes in Marlow go to Buckinghamshire Council. Most garage door swaps need no permission, but conservation areas and listed buildings are the exceptions.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.

Questions from Marlow customers
Can you fit a sectional door to a motorhome garage?
Yes, provided the building has the height and structure for the tracks and the door. We measure headroom, side room and depth at survey.
How much is a large or oversized sectional door?
Large doors are priced on survey because size and structure vary so much. As a guide they start from £4,495 supplied and fitted.
Which parts of Marlow do you cover?
We cover Marlow across postcode districts SL7, SL8, along with nearby High Wycombe, Gerrards Cross and Amersham. Dates are agreed when you book.
Will Buckinghamshire Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask Buckinghamshire Council before ordering.
Do you also cover towns near Marlow?
Yes. Close to Marlow we also cover High Wycombe (4 mi), Gerrards Cross (9 mi), Amersham (10 mi) and Chalfont St Peter (10 mi).
