Choosing a low headroom sectional door for a home in Horsham
Are there trade-offs?
Low headroom systems can cost more, can need a little more depth inside the garage, and some operators need a specific bracket or a different drive. We check all of this at survey.
How much headroom does a standard door need?
Published figures for standard tracks run from about 100 mm to a little over 200 mm above the opening, depending on the range, the spring type, whether there is an operator and whether the door has a pass door. When that space is not there, a low headroom kit changes the track geometry and spring position to fit in less, with some systems quoting as little as 70 to 125 mm.
What can you choose for your Horsham garage?
- Rear-mounted springsMoves the spring shaft away from the opening.
- Low headroom trackTighter top radius so the door parks close to the ceiling.
- Matched operatorOperator and bracket suited to the low headroom set-up.
Guide price for a low headroom sectional door in Horsham
Guide price: £2,295–£3,295 inc VAT. Prices include VAT and fitting. Building work to the opening or a new electrical circuit would be quoted separately.
The survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure width, height, headroom, side room and depth, and look at power for an operator.
Do you need permission in Horsham?
Horsham falls under the local district or borough council for planning and building control, which is the place to check if your home is listed or in a conservation area.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.

Questions from Horsham customers
How little headroom can a sectional door work with?
It depends on the range and door size. Some low headroom systems quote figures from about 70 mm for manual doors, with more needed once an operator is added. The survey measures exactly what you have and matches a system to it.
What if a low headroom door still will not fit?
A side sectional door that slides along the wall, or a compact roller door, are the usual alternatives.
Do you cover Horsham?
Yes. We cover Horsham, including postcode districts RH12, RH13. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will the local district or borough council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask the local district or borough council before ordering.
Do you also cover towns near Horsham?
Yes. Close to Horsham we also cover Crawley (7 mi), Haywards Heath (11 mi), Burgess Hill (11 mi) and East Grinstead (15 mi).
