What should St Albans homeowners know about glazed sectional doors?
What about privacy?
Frosted, obscured or tinted glazing infills keep the light while hiding what is inside. On full-vision doors this is the usual choice for homes.
Window inserts or full vision?
Window inserts are the simple choice: a row of glazed panels in one section of an otherwise solid door. A full-vision door is a different construction, an aluminium frame with glazing throughout, which lets in far more light and makes a design statement.

What rules apply in St Albans?
St Albans falls under the local district or borough council for planning and building control, which is the place to check if your home is listed or in a conservation area.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.

Questions from St Albans customers
Can people see into a glazed garage door?
With clear glazing, yes. Most homeowners choose obscured or frosted infills.
How much is a glazed sectional garage door?
Adding window inserts adds a modest amount; full-vision aluminium doors are a premium product. As a guide, full-vision doors are around £5,995–£7,995 supplied and fitted.
Do you cover St Albans?
Yes. We cover St Albans, including postcode districts AL1, AL2, AL3, AL4. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will the local district or borough council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask the local district or borough council before ordering.
Do you also cover towns near St Albans?
Yes. Close to St Albans we also cover Harpenden (5 mi), Hatfield (5 mi), Hemel Hempstead (5 mi) and Welwyn Garden City (6 mi).
