Electric sectional garage doors: what matters for Wellingborough garages
Can my existing manual sectional be motorised?
Often, yes, if the door is in good order and properly balanced. Converting a manual door to powered operation changes the safety position, so the door must be checked and set up to the powered-door standards, not just fitted with a motor.
Do I need an electrician?
Most operators run from a switched fused spur or socket near the motor position. If you already have one, the fitting is straightforward. If a new circuit is needed, that is notifiable electrical work in some UK nations and we tell you on the quote how it will be handled.
Which options are available in Wellingborough?
- Handsets and wall buttonUsually two handsets plus an internal push button; extra handsets available.
- PhotocellsInfra-red safety beams across the opening.
- Battery backupKeeps the door running for a few cycles in a power cut on supported operators.
- External releaseLockable external emergency release for garages with no other access.
How much does an electric sectional door cost in Wellingborough?
Guide price: £2,095–£3,495 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
The survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure width, height, headroom, side room and depth, and look at power for an operator.
Planning and regulations for Wellingborough homes
If your property in Wellingborough is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, North Northamptonshire Council is the authority to check with before ordering.
A new garage door in an existing opening is not normally development needing planning permission in England. The exceptions are listed buildings, conservation areas, Article 4 areas and estates where a planning condition restricts changes to the garage.
If the garage already has a socket near the operator position, no electrical notification is needed. A brand-new circuit is notifiable under Part P in England.

Questions from Wellingborough customers
Can I add more remotes later?
Yes. Extra handsets can be coded to most operators, and we can do this on a service visit.
Will the door open in a power cut?
Yes, by hand. Pull the emergency release cord and the door can be lifted manually. Some operators also accept a backup battery.
Which parts of Wellingborough do you cover?

Will North Northamptonshire Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not.
