What should Billericay homeowners know about electric sectional doors?
How quiet are modern operators?
Belt-driven operators running on a balanced door are quiet enough for integral garages with bedrooms above. Chain drives are robust but louder. We specify the drive type on your quote.
Can I control it from my phone?
Many current operators accept a smart module or have one built in, so you can open, close and check the door from an app. This is useful for deliveries and for checking you shut the door, though it should never replace the safety systems on the door itself.
Which options are available in Billericay?
- Smart controlApp control through a module or built-in Wi-Fi on selected operators.
- PhotocellsInfra-red safety beams across the opening.
- Belt or chain driveBelt drives are quieter; chain drives are hard-wearing.
- External releaseLockable external emergency release for garages with no other access.
How much does an electric sectional door cost in Billericay?
Guide price: £2,095–£3,495 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
At the free survey we measure everything the manufacturer needs, check the brickwork, lintel and floor, and agree the door details with you.
Do you need permission in Billericay?
If your property in Billericay is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, the local district or borough council is the authority to check with before ordering.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.
If the garage already has a socket near the operator position, no electrical notification is needed. A brand-new circuit is notifiable under Part P in England.

Questions from Billericay customers
Can I add more remotes later?
Yes. Extra handsets can be coded to most operators, and we can do this on a service visit.
Can you fit an electric door if I do not have a socket in the garage?
Yes. We note it at survey and include the electrical work needed on your quote, or you can have your own electrician fit a switched fused spur or socket before fitting day.
Do you cover Billericay?
Yes. We cover Billericay, including postcode districts CM11, CM12. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will the local district or borough council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask the local district or borough council before ordering.
