What should Lewes homeowners know about electric sectional doors?
What happens in a power cut?
Every electric sectional door has an emergency release, a cord inside that disconnects the carriage so the door can be lifted by hand. If the garage has no other way in, an external emergency release lock can be added.
Do I need an electrician?
Most operators run from a switched fused spur or socket near the motor position. If you already have one, the fitting is straightforward. If a new circuit is needed, that is notifiable electrical work in some UK nations and we tell you on the quote how it will be handled.
Which options are available in Lewes?
- Smart controlApp control through a module or built-in Wi-Fi on selected operators.
- Belt or chain driveBelt drives are quieter; chain drives are hard-wearing.
- Handsets and wall buttonUsually two handsets plus an internal push button; extra handsets available.
- External releaseLockable external emergency release for garages with no other access.
How much does an electric sectional door cost in Lewes?
Guide price: £2,095–£3,495 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
Do you need permission in Lewes?
Planning questions for homes in Lewes go to the local district or borough council. Most garage door swaps need no permission, but conservation areas and listed buildings are the exceptions.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.
Operators normally run from a switched fused spur; adding one to an existing circuit is not notifiable in England, but a new circuit falls under Part P.

Questions from Lewes customers
Will the door open in a power cut?
Yes, by hand. Pull the emergency release cord and the door can be lifted manually. Some operators also accept a backup battery.
Are electric garage doors safe with children and pets?
A correctly set up powered door limits closing force and reverses on contact, and photocells stop it closing when the beam is broken. We test these on fitting day and recommend testing them monthly.
Do you cover Lewes?
Yes. We cover Lewes, including postcode districts BN7. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Do I need planning permission for a new garage door in Lewes?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, check with the local district or borough council.
Do you also cover towns near Lewes?
Yes. Close to Lewes we also cover Peacehaven (6 mi), Brighton (7 mi), Uckfield (8 mi) and Seaford (8 mi).
