What should Sheffield homeowners know about double sectional doors?
Can a double door have a pedestrian door in it?
Some ranges offer an integrated wicket door within a sectional door. It is useful on wide doors where there is no separate side door, though it adds cost and has threshold and width limits.
Does a wider door need different springs?
Yes. A double door is far heavier than a single, so it runs on a larger spring set, usually torsion springs on a longer shaft, and heavier-gauge tracks and cables. These are sized to the exact door weight by the manufacturer.
Which options are available in Sheffield?
- Window insertsRows of windows in one section for daylight.
- Any designRibbed, large rib, flush, cassette, woodgrain and glazed options.
- Heavier operatorOperator rated for the door area and weight.
- Wicket doorIntegrated pedestrian door on selected ranges.
How much does a double sectional door cost in Sheffield?
Guide price: £3,295–£4,995 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
At the free survey we measure everything the manufacturer needs, check the brickwork, lintel and floor, and agree the door details with you.
Do you need permission in Sheffield?
Planning questions for homes in Sheffield go to Sheffield City Council. Most garage door swaps need no permission, but conservation areas and listed buildings are the exceptions.
A new garage door in an existing opening is not normally development needing planning permission in England. The exceptions are listed buildings, conservation areas, Article 4 areas and estates where a planning condition restricts changes to the garage.

Questions from Sheffield customers
Can you replace two single doors with one double sectional?
Only if the central pier can be removed safely. That needs structural assessment and often a new lintel, which is arranged separately before the door is ordered.
Can the door be made to a non-standard width?
Yes. Sectional doors are made to measure, so non-standard widths and heights are normal.
Which parts of Sheffield do you cover?
We cover Sheffield across postcode districts S1, S2, S3, S4, S7, S10, along with nearby Rotherham, Chapeltown and Rawmarsh. Dates are agreed when you book.
Will Sheffield City Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask Sheffield City Council before ordering.
