Double sectional garage doors: what matters for Mansfield garages
Does a wider door need different springs?
Yes. A double door is far heavier than a single, so it runs on a larger spring set, usually torsion springs on a longer shaft, and heavier-gauge tracks and cables. These are sized to the exact door weight by the manufacturer.
One wide door or two single doors?
If your garage has a central pier, two single doors may still make sense. If the opening is clear from side to side, one wide sectional door gives the most usable width and a cleaner look. On some properties removing a central pier is possible, but that is structural work needing proper design, not a decision to make on the doorstep.

Do you need permission in Mansfield?
Planning questions for homes in Mansfield go to the local district or borough council. Most garage door swaps need no permission, but conservation areas and listed buildings are the exceptions.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.

Questions from Mansfield customers
Can you replace two single doors with one double sectional?
Only if the central pier can be removed safely. That needs structural assessment and often a new lintel, which is arranged separately before the door is ordered.
How much is a double sectional garage door?
A double insulated sectional door, supplied and fitted with an electric operator, is typically around £3,295–£4,995, depending on width, finish and glazing.
Which parts of Mansfield do you cover?
We cover Mansfield across postcode districts NG17, NG18, NG19, along with nearby Mansfield Woodhouse, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Dates are agreed when you book.
Will the local district or borough council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask the local district or borough council before ordering.
