Key questions about double sectional doors in Merthyr Tydfil
One wide door or two single doors?
If your garage has a central pier, two single doors may still make sense. If the opening is clear from side to side, one wide sectional door gives the most usable width and a cleaner look. On some properties removing a central pier is possible, but that is structural work needing proper design, not a decision to make on the doorstep.
Will a standard operator lift it?
Domestic operators come in ratings for different door areas. Wide doors need an operator rated for the size and weight, and on very wide or heavy doors a more powerful unit or a different drive arrangement is specified.

How much does a double sectional door cost in Merthyr Tydfil?
Guide price: £3,295–£4,995 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
The survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure width, height, headroom, side room and depth, and look at power for an operator.
Do you need permission in Merthyr Tydfil?
If your property in Merthyr Tydfil is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, Merthyr Tydfil Council is the authority to check with before ordering.
In Wales a like-for-like garage door is normally minor work outside planning control. Listed buildings, conservation areas and planning conditions are the exceptions to check.

Questions from Merthyr Tydfil customers
Can you replace two single doors with one double sectional?
Only if the central pier can be removed safely. That needs structural assessment and often a new lintel, which is arranged separately before the door is ordered.
Do I need more headroom for a double door?
Headroom depends more on the track and spring system than the width. Where headroom is tight, a low-headroom version is available.

Will Merthyr Tydfil Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. A replacement garage door of similar appearance is normally minor work in Wales, but listed buildings, conservation areas and planning conditions can change that. If in doubt, ask Merthyr Tydfil Council before ordering.
