Key questions about double sectional doors in Tonbridge
Will a standard operator lift it?
Domestic operators come in ratings for different door areas. Wide doors need an operator rated for the size and weight, and on very wide or heavy doors a more powerful unit or a different drive arrangement is specified.
One wide door or two single doors?
If your garage has a central pier, two single doors may still make sense. If the opening is clear from side to side, one wide sectional door gives the most usable width and a cleaner look. On some properties removing a central pier is possible, but that is structural work needing proper design, not a decision to make on the doorstep.

Planning and regulations for Tonbridge homes
Planning questions for homes in Tonbridge go to the local district or borough council. Most garage door swaps need no permission, but conservation areas and listed buildings are the exceptions.

Questions from Tonbridge customers
Can the door be made to a non-standard width?
Yes. Sectional doors are made to measure, so non-standard widths and heights are normal.
Is a double sectional door heavy to open by hand?
When it is correctly balanced, the springs carry most of the weight. Even so, most people choose electric operation on a double.
Do you cover Tonbridge?
Yes. We cover Tonbridge, including postcode districts TN9, TN10, TN11. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Do I need planning permission for a new garage door in Tonbridge?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, check with the local district or borough council.
