Double sectional garage doors: what matters for Gravesend garages
One wide door or two single doors?
If your garage has a central pier, two single doors may still make sense. If the opening is clear from side to side, one wide sectional door gives the most usable width and a cleaner look. On some properties removing a central pier is possible, but that is structural work needing proper design, not a decision to make on the doorstep.
Will a standard operator lift it?
Domestic operators come in ratings for different door areas. Wide doors need an operator rated for the size and weight, and on very wide or heavy doors a more powerful unit or a different drive arrangement is specified.

How much does a double sectional door cost in Gravesend?
Guide price: £3,295–£4,995 inc VAT. The figure includes VAT, fitting and taking away a standard old door. Your survey turns it into a fixed price.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
What rules apply in Gravesend?
Gravesend falls under the local district or borough council for planning and building control, which is the place to check if your home is listed or in a conservation area.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.

Questions from Gravesend customers
Do I need more headroom for a double door?
Headroom depends more on the track and spring system than the width. Where headroom is tight, a low-headroom version is available.
How much is a double sectional garage door?
A double insulated sectional door, supplied and fitted with an electric operator, is typically around £3,295–£4,995, depending on width, finish and glazing.
Which parts of Gravesend do you cover?
We cover Gravesend across postcode districts DA10, DA11, DA12, along with nearby Strood, Dartford and Rochester. Dates are agreed when you book.
Do I need planning permission for a new garage door in Gravesend?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, check with the local district or borough council.
