Double sectional garage doors: what matters for Hemel Hempstead garages
One wide door or two single doors?
If your garage has a central pier, two single doors may still make sense. If the opening is clear from side to side, one wide sectional door gives the most usable width and a cleaner look. On some properties removing a central pier is possible, but that is structural work needing proper design, not a decision to make on the doorstep.
Can a double door have a pedestrian door in it?
Some ranges offer an integrated wicket door within a sectional door. It is useful on wide doors where there is no separate side door, though it adds cost and has threshold and width limits.

How much does a double sectional door cost in Hemel Hempstead?
Guide price: £3,295–£4,995 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
Do you need permission in Hemel Hempstead?
Planning questions for homes in Hemel Hempstead go to the local district or borough council. Most garage door swaps need no permission, but conservation areas and listed buildings are the exceptions.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.

Questions from Hemel Hempstead customers
Can you replace two single doors with one double sectional?
Only if the central pier can be removed safely. That needs structural assessment and often a new lintel, which is arranged separately before the door is ordered.
Do I need more headroom for a double door?
Headroom depends more on the track and spring system than the width. Where headroom is tight, a low-headroom version is available.
Which parts of Hemel Hempstead do you cover?
We cover Hemel Hempstead across postcode districts HP1, HP2, HP3, along with nearby Berkhamsted, St Albans and Harpenden. Dates are agreed when you book.
Do I need planning permission for a new garage door in Hemel Hempstead?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, check with the local district or borough council.
