Key questions about double sectional doors in Bexley
Does a wider door need different springs?
Yes. A double door is far heavier than a single, so it runs on a larger spring set, usually torsion springs on a longer shaft, and heavier-gauge tracks and cables. These are sized to the exact door weight by the manufacturer.
What sizes are common in the UK?
Many older double garages have openings of about 14 feet by 7 feet (roughly 4267 by 2134 mm) or 16 feet by 7 feet (about 4877 by 2134 mm). New builds vary, which is why every door is made to the measured opening rather than to a stock size.

Planning and regulations for Bexley homes
If your property in Bexley is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, the local London borough council is the authority to check with before ordering.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.

Questions from Bexley customers
Is a double sectional door heavy to open by hand?
When it is correctly balanced, the springs carry most of the weight. Even so, most people choose electric operation on a double.
Can you replace two single doors with one double sectional?
Only if the central pier can be removed safely. That needs structural assessment and often a new lintel, which is arranged separately before the door is ordered.

Do I need planning permission for a new garage door in Bexley?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, check with the local London borough council.
