What should Wickford homeowners know about double sectional doors?
Will a standard operator lift it?
Domestic operators come in ratings for different door areas. Wide doors need an operator rated for the size and weight, and on very wide or heavy doors a more powerful unit or a different drive arrangement is specified.
One wide door or two single doors?
If your garage has a central pier, two single doors may still make sense. If the opening is clear from side to side, one wide sectional door gives the most usable width and a cleaner look. On some properties removing a central pier is possible, but that is structural work needing proper design, not a decision to make on the doorstep.

How much does a double sectional door cost in Wickford?
Guide price: £3,295–£4,995 inc VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
Do you need permission in Wickford?
Planning questions for homes in Wickford go to the local district or borough council. Most garage door swaps need no permission, but conservation areas and listed buildings are the exceptions.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.

Questions from Wickford customers
Do I need more headroom for a double door?
Headroom depends more on the track and spring system than the width. Where headroom is tight, a low-headroom version is available.
Is a double sectional door heavy to open by hand?
When it is correctly balanced, the springs carry most of the weight. Even so, most people choose electric operation on a double.
Which parts of Wickford do you cover?
We cover Wickford across postcode districts SS11, SS12, SS13, along with nearby Pitsea, Rayleigh and Basildon. Dates are agreed when you book.
Do I need planning permission for a new garage door in Wickford?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, check with the local district or borough council.
