What should Chester-le-Street homeowners know about double sectional doors?
What sizes are common in the UK?
Many older double garages have openings of about 14 feet by 7 feet (roughly 4267 by 2134 mm) or 16 feet by 7 feet (about 4877 by 2134 mm). New builds vary, which is why every door is made to the measured opening rather than to a stock size.
One wide door or two single doors?
If your garage has a central pier, two single doors may still make sense. If the opening is clear from side to side, one wide sectional door gives the most usable width and a cleaner look. On some properties removing a central pier is possible, but that is structural work needing proper design, not a decision to make on the doorstep.

Do you need permission in Chester-le-Street?
If your property in Chester-le-Street is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, Durham County Council is the authority to check with before ordering.
English planning rules normally treat a replacement garage door as permitted. Listed status, conservation areas, Article 4 directions and estate planning conditions are what can change that.

Questions from Chester-le-Street customers
Do I need more headroom for a double door?
Headroom depends more on the track and spring system than the width. Where headroom is tight, a low-headroom version is available.
Can the door be made to a non-standard width?
Yes. Sectional doors are made to measure, so non-standard widths and heights are normal.
Do you cover Chester-le-Street?
Yes. We cover Chester-le-Street, including postcode districts DH2, DH3. Installation and visit dates depend on installer availability and are agreed when you book.
Will Durham County Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask Durham County Council before ordering.
Do you also cover towns near Chester-le-Street?
Yes. Close to Chester-le-Street we also cover Stanley (5 mi), Durham (6 mi), Seaham (9 mi) and Consett (10 mi).
