What should Keynsham homeowners know about commercial sectional doors?
How is it different from a domestic door?
Commercial doors open more often and are often bigger, so they use springs rated for higher cycle counts, heavier hardware and operators built for frequent use. The safety requirements for powered doors at work also apply.
What are the duties at work?
Powered doors in workplaces must be safe and maintained. In Great Britain that falls under workplace and work equipment law, and in Northern Ireland under its equivalent regulations. Regular servicing with records is the practical way to show the door is kept safe.
Which options are available in Keynsham?
- Shaft operatorFor heavier doors and frequent use.
- High-cycle springsFor doors that open many times a day.
- Vision panelsGlazed rows for light and visibility.
- Pass doorPedestrian door within the panels.
How much does a commercial sectional door cost in Keynsham?
Guide price: from £3,500 + VAT. That covers the door, fitting, removal of a standard old door and VAT; the fixed price follows the free survey.
Our free survey checks the opening, headroom above it, room either side for the tracks, garage depth and where an operator will be powered from.
What rules apply in Keynsham?
If your property in Keynsham is listed, in a conservation area or on an estate with planning conditions, Bath and North East Somerset Council is the authority to check with before ordering.
In England you can usually replace a garage door without planning permission. Check first if the house is listed, sits in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or was built with planning conditions covering the garage.
Operators normally run from a switched fused spur; adding one to an existing circuit is not notifiable in England, but a new circuit falls under Part P.
At work, powered doors must also be maintained under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998.

Questions from Keynsham customers
How much is a commercial sectional door?
Commercial doors are priced on survey. As a guide, a workshop-sized insulated door with an operator starts from £3,500 plus VAT.
Do you fit loading bay equipment?
No. We fit sectional doors to workshops and small units. Dock levellers, shelters and full loading bays need a specialist industrial door company.
Which parts of Keynsham do you cover?
We cover Keynsham across postcode districts BS31, along with nearby Bath, Nailsea and Portishead. Dates are agreed when you book.
Will Bath and North East Somerset Council need to approve my new garage door?
Usually not. Replacing a garage door, including with an electric sectional door, does not normally need planning permission in England unless the house is listed, in a conservation area or Article 4 area, or has planning conditions affecting the garage. If in doubt, ask Bath and North East Somerset Council before ordering.
